Venice's Top 10 can't-miss experiences to live like a local

As a small special gift for our community, we have crafted our own guide to Venice, to share our 10 can't-miss experiences and live the water city like a sustainable local.

As a company of young people, from every continent, who have chosen Venice as our home, we’re indeed excited to share this with you. Each of these picks has been selected for being either free or highly affordable, enabling you to discover Venice through the eyes of those who know and love it best. We're eager to hear your thoughts and hope you find joy and adventure in each recommendation. Dive in and experience Venice like a sustainable local!

1. Breakfast at Rosa Salva in Campo SS. Giovanni e Paolo
Start your day with a traditional breakfast at a centuries-old patisserie, where you can savor the original Venetian zabaione cream and the finest coffee in the charming "campo" (square under a Venetian flag).

2. Strolling on the Island of San Giorgio
Take a waterbus to the beautiful island of San Giorgio. Enjoy a peaceful stroll in its gardens,  explore Palladio's masterpiece, the Church of San Giorgio, and visit the bell tower for breathtaking panoramic views of Venice.

3. Sitting on the Steps of Santa Maria della Salute
Head over to the breathtaking Santa Maria della Salute (also Pope Francis chose this church for his speech to the people of the lagoon). Sit back on the steps and take in the stunning views of the Grand Canal, enjoying the lively boat traffic and magnificent Venetian architecture.

4. Spritz at Erbaria
At noon, or really anytime, head to Erbaria for the quintessential Venetian Spritz. Don’t ask for Aperol, but for a Spritz Select! Sip your refreshing drink while soaking in the vibrant atmosphere of the Rialto markets.

5. Gelato from Suso
While wandering through the art-filled Dorsoduro district, treat yourself to a mouthwatering gelato from Suso, one of Venice's best gelaterias.

6. Cicchetto at Squero
Experience Venetian cicchetti at Squero, the city's most renowned location, overlooking a gondola workshop. Savor a variety of small bites paired with a glass of local wine.

7. Sunset from Zattere
Catch a stunning sunset from the Zattere promenade, where you'll get a spectacular view of the Giudecca Canal and Redentore church. Like Canaletto and many great artists, watch as the sun dips below the horizon, transforming the sky into a canvas of vibrant colors over the water.

8. Aperitifs on the Timon Boat
After sunset, head to the Al Timon for aperitifs. Enjoy drinks and snacks while floating on the canal, soaking in the unique Venetian ambiance.

9. Singing at the San Francesco della Vigna Festival
If you're visiting during the festival or any Venetian sagra, dive into the local culture by joining the lively singing and festivities at San Francesco della Vigna. Dance to traditional tunes, savor authentic local street food, and experience the vibrant community spirit that brings the city to life.

10. Evening at Fondamenta della Misericordia
Conclude your day with a lively evening at Fondamenta della Misericordia. This area is known for its buzzing nightlife, with plenty of bars to explore.
