Wil Burns
Dr. Wil Burns is a Visiting Professor in the Environmental Policy & Culture Program at Northwestern University. Wil has held several teaching positions in renowned universities such as Founding Co-Director of the Institute for Carbon Removal Law & Policy at American University and as Director of the Energy Policy & Climate program at John Hopkins University. Much of Wil’s career has been focused on advancing knowledge and understanding key environmental issues.

Don’t Rule out Enhanced Oil Recovery in Carbon Dioxide Removal Policymaking
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has emphasized that meeting the Paris Agreement’s temperature objectives will require both highly aggressive measures to decarbonize the global economy as well as large-scale initiatives to remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.
One approach to scaling up the carbon removal industry is Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR), which may be counterintuitive and contentious, but can also play a significant role in decreasing carbon emissions.
