About Futur/io and the methodology applied

The Futur/io Institute, the independent curator of this list, is a leading European think-tank and organization dedicated to shaping a future where sustainability, technology, and innovation are at the core of global progress. Futur/io works with organisations like illuminem, the UNFCCC and corporates in leadership training and organises Executive Programmes to inspire future leaders in sustainable innovation. 

The list was defined as listing the appointed Chief Sustainability Officers (CSOs) of European companies with over €1b annual revenues and/or 10,000+ employees, serving in the role for over 6 months. No Oil & Gas or related industries are included to foster fast divestments from these. Consulting, tax auditors or government/public entities are also excluded to focus on direct corporate impact.

A nomination committee of twelve influential faculty and partners, led by chairman Marc Buckley, will further select 20 nominees that will make it to the finals of the inaugural CSO Awards /24. They will be revealed on December 5, 2023, during the Annual Economic Forum at Davos.
